Title: AAC support
Post by: jul059 on December 12, 2009, 06:14:31
Hello all,

I believe that adding AAC support is becoming increasingly important. First because the number of people owning an iPod with thousands of aac files is constantly growing (and already huge). Second, because AAC might just become the next mp3.

I do not think that adding this functionality would be extremely time consuming. There is already an open source project with a very stable release called FAAD2 to decode AAC streams.

Anyway your thoughts on this would be welcomed.

it has GPL license, it can't be used in closed source programs (free or not - irrelevant).
Other decoders have LGPL licenses, it not so restrictive.

You can add the ability to install plug-ins. And users will download it yourself.

Or add an option to use DirectShow filters
