Title: Similarity (Premium) won't complete a scan
Post by: Bob Clark on May 20, 2013, 14:16:59
I purchased the premium version hoping it would solve this problem. Similarity will scan for at least a week then will always stop or crash before 100% completion. I've run the program on two machines for weeks and it will never complete a scan. The scans get slower and slower then will stay at the same percentage  forever. The latest scan ran for over two weeks and is now at 99.4% for four days.
I'd sure like this program to work!

How many files do you have ?
If you very huge amount of files you need change settings as in Part3 of tutorial http://www.similarityapp.com/tutorial#part3 (http://www.similarityapp.com/tutorial#part3)
Also for speedup you can increase duration slider, it significantly decrease amount of comparisons.

:) I FINALLY got the program to complete a scan by adjusting the settings. NOW, what do I do with the results? I'm afraid to exit the program because I will lose weeks of scanning. I have over 8 thousand duplicates.
I would like to take one copy of each song and copy it to another folder. How do I do that?
Thanks for your help.

You can save all result, menu Files -> Save, all results saved you can restore them anytime.
Use "Move" context menu to move duplicates to special folder.

Now that Similarity has completed a scan, there is no way to save one copy of each song to a folder. Under the 'Action' menu, automark, clear and analyze are the only choices.
How do I save one copy of each song to a separate folder? I can save the results but I don't see where that helps. It doesn't seem to resume a scan where it left off.
How do I process the results of a week+ scan?
Thanks.

Saving results you can process files manually one-by-one later.
If you want do it automatically use Automark feature and after marking use "Move" command to move worst files to specific folder.

:-\ I'm missing something here. After a lengthy scan, I use 'Automark files', but nothing happens. I followed the tutorials and after I use 'Automark files' nothing is marked. If I manually mark the files, the file is red. It would take forever to manually mark thousands of files.
I'm trying to get one copy of each song in a folder.

You need to lower some thresholds values in automark dialog or disable them almost if you don't use some algorithms (they set default for safety).
