Title: Can't open cache
Post by: billbennett on May 29, 2010, 21:32:33
Whenever I open Similarity I get a message saying "Can't open cache". This is a big problem - I've got 10,000 files and it takes more than a day to process the whole file

You can't run 2 Similarity simultaneously, because they can't store caches in same file. To resolve this limitation run second Similarity with "/portable" command line argument, it stores all files in other dir.

No. I'm only running one copy. I *think* it could be a permissions thing. I'm running Vista, do I need to run Similarity as admin?

No, it doesn't need admin perissions after installing, but it must create Similarity folder and files in "AppData\Roaming\Similarity"

try to run with "/portable" command line argument, it's stores every files in same folder where exe file located.

I see the "can't open cache" issue when running one copy of Similarity on Windows XP. It did crash once though, so I wonder if it has a file-locking issue after the crash.

Same Issue, but what happens is when I hit scan  it'll scan for less then a minute and then the second issue of Similarity opens up in  task manager .  prior to that i had no issue until, when in options i hit the clear cache option.. after that ... all i get is the crash ..

After crash file may be locked, you must kill any Similarity process what can lock file or use portable mode.
