Wishlist / Easy Cache path setup

Hi,

It has been several versions since an easy option to change the cache was requested:

Please add at the GUI a direct option for setting the appdata folder and the cache location

General / Similarity seems not optimized for 300,000+ mp3 files

Hi.

I have a huge amount of mp3 files (300,000+) and usually use the following config for checking duplicates (collection vs new files):
Audio comparison method: precise 95%
Duration check: enable 95%
Skip video files

My collection is stored accros several drives: my laptop drive and 2 EHDD (USB 3.0)
The Similatity Cache shows a total of 393,693 files

And every time I want to search for duplicates have to deal with the following:
1) when I open the program, it takes between 1 and 3 minutes to load and the GUI to appear
2) then when I start the comparison, a couple of types i have compared all my files (I've not created groups) and it takes 4 to 5 full days to complete. First time I launched this comparison, I though that it took longer since the cache was build, but then launched again the same exact comparison and it took the same 4 to 5 days, isn't it supposed to take much less? I have not added nor deleted any file, just launched again the same comparison to check the difference between having the cache to build and having the cache already created

Are there any plans to further optimize similarity? to really take advantage of the cache and reduce dramatically the time? and also to process a huge collection more efficiently?

Bugs / decoder.exe stays after closing similarity

Hi.

When I use Similarity, I normally process between 10,000 to 15,000 mp3 files, obviously the whole processing takes about 12 to 18 hours.

Everything is fine except that sometimes when I shut down Similarity, either because it has finished or because I need to do something else, sometimes 1 or 2 decoder.exe processes stay there, they appear on task manager.

I have even waited several minutes (thinking that Similarity left a process that is still running) but the decoder.exe processes stay there and have to kill them manually.

Is this a bug?

General / Change cache location?

Is it possible to change the cache location?

At least at the options there is no way to do that, but is there another way to change that?

I think it would be great to add an option to set the folder (and drive) where the cache will be stored.

Wishlist / When deleting marking files, to also delete empty folders

I thinks this is very useful to further maintain in optimal condition a music collection, since I've noticed that when some files are deleted, some folders remain empty.

Implementing this option will help to automatically delete folders that are left empty after the deletion of marked files (instead of having to manuallt check them or by using other software)

Wishlist / Automark older or newer files option

Hi.

I'm using the latest beta build (1.9.1 build 1830) and noticed a key automark feature that is missing:

To automark either the older files or the newer files, this is very useful when you have a huge music collection.

Is it possible to implement this feature?

Wishlist / Display filename first instead of path, for Results

Hi.

I think it's needed to implement this feature ASAP, specially when working with huge collections that results in 1000+ audio duplicates.

Similaity displays on the "file" column the whole path and then the filename, this is not practical and not functional at all. Since what a user is looking for is to check the filename for easier identification, not the path.

Please improve this and allow the option to display first the filename and then the path, perhaps as two different columns instead of just one, for example "filename" one column and "path" the other column.

Wishlist / Estimate time of completion?

I have being wondering this. why does an estimate time of completion has not being implemented?

I'm aware that a precise or exact time could not be given, but based on the number of files, calculations, processing power, etc. an estimate time of completion could be obtained.

Have the developers ever considered this?

Wishlist / Customize AutoMark and manual mark highlight - for easier identification

Hi.

I've noticed that the red font sometimes is difficult to see, perhaps it would be great to add an option to choose how to highlight marked files, for example give options to make the fonts bold, or change the color or choose a text highlight color.

General / OpenCL - when to use it? (help and benchmark oppose each other!)

Hi.

I noticed that when running an OpenCL benchmark, the results are expressed in speed (ms) for example:

CPU Speed (1 Core): 281ms
OpenCL Device Speed: 78ms

According to this, then OpenCL must be enabled since openCL is faster than 1 CPU Core,

BUT the online help says the opposite:
"Don’t turn on OpenCL acceleration if the results of OpenCL benchmark are lower than processor’s benchmark, because this will increase overhead costs due to increased expenses for data transfer to the OpenCL device. "

So what is the correct statement?

Bugs / "update is available" message when there is no update?

Hi.

I've the latest version installed: 1.8.3 (x64) build 1663 (06/03/2013)

And I don't know why every time I start the program the pop up window saying "update is available" appears.

I've even tried to re-download the 64 bit installer and installed again but the issue is still there.

Is this a bug? or perhaps indeed there is an update but the installer is not the most recent?
