Wishlist / Re: Choose a folder in automatic marking for deletion
« on: December 03, 2010, 19:04:08 »
The results page doesn't make sense to me. Each file is in bold and then the duplicates are indented. Indented based on what? It's not bitrate because sometimes the bold one is of a higher bitrate and sometimes it's lower. File size? random? That's why I am saying to show the auto markings in the free version because I don't know if auto marking works the way I like. Until I know how it works I don't want to get the premium one.

What do you mean the candidates for deletion are chosen arbitrarily? I thought you can choose a criteria like bitrate. It keeps the file with the highest bitrate and deletes the lower ones. Does it do that?

The merging and moving of files is done through file explorer. That's what I meant when I said 'I can then copy...'.

With the free version I have no idea what kind of selections Similarity will make to delete any file. Does it mark all dups for the same song except for one? which ones?

The free app should let us preview the selections Similarity would make. Put the actual action, the delete, in the premium version. I am evaluating other competing similar products which 'listen' and they have some good features.

General / No results when precise content only is chosen
« on: December 02, 2010, 21:35:37 »
I am using the free version. when I choose precise content only, I get no results. This is confusing. Did it not find any duplicates (very unlikely since the other options brings tens of dups) or this is not working in the free version? If the precise content only works in premium, why is it enabled and goes through the scanning process in the free version. The checkbox should be disabled?

I would like to see how the auto mark works. Why not have the auto mark work in the free version and then do the delete only in the premium version? I have no idea if this functionality is actually working the way I want without getting the premium.

Wishlist / Choose a folder in automatic marking for deletion

I would like to choose a folder in automatic marking for deletion.

Example: I have two folders, 'folder 1' & 'folder 2' which contain many duplicates. I would like to be able to tell Similarity to choose 'folder 2' when it deletes  the duplicates. Think of 'folder 1' being the master folder. When the deletion is complete I can then copy the rest of the files (merge) from 'folder 2' into 'folder 1'.

I am not sure if this feature is supported. If not, please add it.

General / Display all duplicates of the same audio in a single group

All the files should have a checkbox. By default similarity would select all the dups except one (for each distinct audio file). The selected files are chosen based on criteria set in the program's options.
By default, it selects all the dups which have the lower bit rate. If the the files have the same bit rate, then choose the ones which are shorter in length... and so on. The user can change this default behavior.

but going through tens or hundreds of files and selecting each manually is  not a good user experience. It works for a few files.

If I have 200 files and each has 1-3 duplicate files, shift or ctrl wont be of much help. I have to manually select tens of files.  It would be better if the program select the dups and I confirm the selections for deletion.

OK. I am using 1.1. So  please explain how this is done in 1.1. You right click and there's a delete option. Looks like it works on a per file. What if you have hundreds of files and/if you have several dups for some files. Delete one file at a time is a time consuming process.

Check out Audio Dedupe and Audio Comparer and see how they do theirs.

I am using 1.1 and it did the same thing with the version before it.

Instead of having several pairs for all the duplicates, display all of them in a single group for each audio file, auto mark all of them except the best quality one so it's easy to see the files and delete.

General / Is there a delete option?
« on: January 24, 2010, 23:56:17 »
If it's there I don't see it. Need the application to automatically show the duplicates and mark the lower rate/ smaller file versions for deletion so it's easy to delete the files in a single operation. User can override the auto selections.

After installing the software and double clicking the app, nothing happens. It doesn't run. The app doesn't show in task manager. It runs in Windows 7.
