Bugs / Ignore very slow

another observation that may be useful:
When the main compare is done but the Experimental %  are  still not all there,   the ignore is again nice and fast.

Wishlist / Ignore Files (switch to MD5)
« on: July 03, 2009, 03:33:17 »
This may sound a little radical at first.   But  here is an idea that would help when running the software on multiple machines.
Instead of storing absolute path and filenames  in the ignore file,
store the MD5 fingerprint (and perhaps the short filename) of each song in the pair.
This way we can copy the ignore file between computers and pairs which were marked as ignored on one will automatically be ignored on the other computer.

I know this is a bit more sophisticated, but in a multi computer (not on a LAN, but physically separate locales) environment makes a lot of sense.

Please consider it.

General / Fantastic software
« on: July 02, 2009, 21:02:15 »
Sure is awesome software.

And you know what is more fun then finding duplicates on one cumputer.
You guessed it .... finding duplicates on two computers which have overlapping but mutually exclusive sets of MP3s.   Thousands of them.
Can you say  auch ?     :D

Thnx for this great tool that makes things at least more manageable  Admin.

Wishlist / Ignore marked ...
« on: July 02, 2009, 20:55:47 »
I can't remember if I posted this wish item yet or not, but here it is:

Could you add the equivalent of "Delete marked ..."  for  ignores :   ie. "Ignore marked ..."?

Gosh that would save me such a headache,  its a pain when you have many versions of same/similar songs. (happens a lot with classical music  for ex)

thnx

+ ignores stored in "ignores.list" text file, not in cache

Any chance you can commit the ignores file more then just on program-exit ?  (ex.  every Xseconds ,    or  when  Xignores have been requested)
[some of us run Similarity for several days,  and  power outages do happen  :)  ]
plz.

Bugs / Ignore very slow
« on: July 02, 2009, 20:21:01 »
To clarify:
The problem only occurs while the software is still searching for duplicates.  Once it is done, the Ignore command is instantaneous regardless how many dups are in the list and how many ignores have already been marked.
(hope that narrows it down)

oh i see what the pattern is ........    if there are very few entries in the  Duplicates list  it is nice and fast ..... but as soon as the list goes over 500dups it gets worse and worse.

Bugs / Status bar

v0.9.310

does it on Ignore.   (ie. when last pair on the list is Ignored .... the status bar still shows 1duplicate(s)  )

Bugs / 'Play' button seems to do nothing
« on: June 22, 2009, 17:17:53 »
Guest:
So is what you are saying that Similarity will always launch Windows Media player, not the default player for the file type?

Both my Vista64 and W2K  installations   launch  Play button  in  WinAmp  (my default)  on this end .... so something specific to your installation.

Bugs / Caching problem

Ja ok ... i see it:
C:\Program Files\Similarity\cache.dat
At the end of the run it is at  109MB,  writable.

so now I exit Similarity.   cache still 109MB.

Now I restart Similarity.

It remembers my directory selections correctly .... and cache file is still at: 109MB.

Now I hit 'Start scanning'  button    and     cache file  is still at 109MB ......  but the status bar starts out with :
      Cache : 0        New : 0/0

and all the previously ignored duplicates show up again.
