What most sets this program can compare? Maybe 200 000 mp3?
-
i test only on 5000 files, it's limit only by available computer memory.
-
Comments: Does not show well bitrate! CPU 100%! Cache does not work for another use!
-
This is an amazing software. Showing a very accurate result and given at relatively quick time. I'm wondering what programming language do you guys use to write this.
-
Thanks, it's written on C++.
-
I'm planning to make a similar program for my thesis, but perhaps far less complex than this. Could you give me any clue as in what should i learn about? Are you planning to make it commercial or is there a possibility releasing it in GPL/copyleft license.
-
почему программа у меня не работает? ведь автоматически начинает сравнить также как добавляю папку и жму ок?

familiar
you can write me email.

My name is Colin I down loaded Similarity a few days ago, wow thanks, saved me weeks sorting, a really friendly and reliable programme, thanks for making it freely available.
I'm now looking to populate the Tags with correct data, and looking for a programme like your own that listens/analyses each track and then finds the right info from the the net. Do you know any, and any that are Freeware

Winamp + autotag (GraceNote DB), Yahoo Music... (forget full name, also GraceNote DB).

I'm wondering if you could add support for comparing the individual channels within a WAV, so to determine if an audio sample is exactly mono (100%; digital copy), fairly mono (99%; probably from a mono->stereo analog source), to stereo (~85% or less). Could you add such a feature?
Also, I'm trying to compare multiple CDs of similar, often same, material... but I'd like to find any anomalies such as errors in CD extraction (jitter, etc) and any where editing has occurred in a track. Will your software be able to show a waveform graph highlighting the exact offsets in wave where audio diverges between 2 or more samples?
I'm also curious how your software handles time offsets, such as a track with a longer period of silence at the beginning, or a track that has several seconds of audio inserted in the middle (eg, an extended chorus/loop).
And finally, can your software determine that two tracks are similar/the same, if one of the tracks is truncated/incomplete?
-
1. about comparing mono: it can be done, but i don't have free time, now, maybe later.
2. It's difficult, not for such kind of program it differently, try to smooth such errors.
3. it's uses average track score, not time, in such case it's ignore silence or its be a small statistic fluctuation(error).
4. see 3
-
Hmm, I think I understand.
So your program doesn't compare a waveform side-by-side over time... Instead it looks at each individual waveform, creates a "fingerprint", and then compares multiple fingerprints?
How would Similarity handle two identical tracks, where one of the tracks is "reversed" (flipped backwards)? Would both tracks be statistically alike and show as a 100% match?
-
1. Yes its use "fingerprint", because "fingerprint"ing give very big speed improvment on big collections of files, only after, can be done more precisly comparing, but in this time the program uses only "fingerprint". I have algorithms that can compare very precisly 2 sounds and map 1 sound to another and show similar portions of them, but it very, very slow 10000 times slower than simple comparing "fingerprint".
2. No, its changes some time related scores, but they scores must be similar (i dont know exactly how similar, i didn't test).
PS. experemental algorithm try to compare sounds without "fingerprint".

I think, I don't have to mention, that you are doing a fantastic work! ;)
Just two ideas from my side:
Is it possible for you to
1. add a "SAVE search result"-function and a "LOAD search result"-function?
2. add a "Stop search"-function and a "Restart search"-function?
-
1. Yes, it can be done, but you can save playlist with results.
2. Yes, it can be done.
-
Thank you very much for the fast answer!!
-
Another idea:
Is it possible to support m4a?
-
No, its difficult, need source to API/source of AAC decoder.
-
Okay, I understand!
-
hey,
first of all it's an amazing software.
have an idea for a minor improvement:
to make multiselection possible and make a pop up menu that lets you delete right or delete left on that selection.
or even better put a check box next to each file and make a delete all marked command.
again' 10x for this software :)

Hello,
I like your software. I have 11 000 mp3 and it is pretty long to do all the mp3 (more than 15 hour on my Athlon XP 2500+ 2.5Ghz). But the results are accurate the majority of the time. I get strange results sometime. I found a MP3 that match 100% with almost all the others! Can you tell me more about your algorithm? Maybe I can help to track the problem? I want to do a thesis on mp3/music similarity and I think your software can be a good start. I hope it will be open source.
-
i can make it open source, but I have not time to it. I need man who can continue my work, and do it open source.
-
I'm looking into doing something with this kind of software (audio file comparison among other things) in a (to-be) open source program. I'd love to talk about the algorithms you used and try to get this open source'd. I'm familiar with C++ but strongest with Python, and I think it'd be REALLY neat to write some libraries for this stuff. (What I'm looking for right now are audio manipulation libraries... so if I have to make them I can).
you can email me if you're interested in any of the above! thanks!

I downloaded your latest version of the software and it looks amazing!
I have a Dell M6300 laptop running XP x64, Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM. Media player 11. I am scanning between 3000 and 18000 MP3's
I have two problems.
1. The play function does not work. When I click on it nothing happens
2. When I right click and select Explorer, it opens the path for File #2. I cannot get the path for File #1 to open.
Thx for your help
-
1. it's must play in default player in your windows (example Windows Media Player, WinAmp), try to instal winamp and test.
2. you must right click on on left column, not on right.

Hi,can you help? The program begins work automatycally when I choosed only first folder! It can't access me to second folder to be compared, just started for random folder, and no place to cancel,in any menu.....I only could close for stoping.
-
And...I go on.Where ar the FAQ and HELP for this program? I think I'm wrong something and cannot understand what are all this numbers.I think when it's shows me 100 pursentage on both sides - so they are similar, but what about some differs left or write? I'm talking about my copy folder,I've just copied a folder with music to other place and begun to compair these bouth folders. And the resuls were with differenses...?...IN JUST COPY folder..???....?..!Can you help?:)I will check every day for answer here..

Amazing software!
I searched so much for something like this and had to dig a lot on google to get it but man it was worth it!
THANK YOU!

first you must select folders where your mp3 files located in staring dialog
second you can reset alredy filled cache in options
unfortunantly where no help, no time to write it.
-
Thanks,I understand you have no time...
Explain me then here why some ''100%'' are in blue, but other - in green? And what are these ''tags'' AND ''EXPERIMENTAL ALGORITHM''..? iF i BEGIN TO EXPERIMENT - WHAT ''SIMILARITY'' WILL HAPPENS....?,,??...:)
Please answer me in Scype-ther I am ''asvet99''

Hi Almaz!
I'm ask you few times but not recieved any straight answer, so asking once more:
Why program compare mp3 with mp3 and flac with flac separately?
or
Why program didn't find any mp3 transcoded from flac?
Thanx in advance
-
exper. algorithm it new algorithm that scan entire all file, unfortunantly its slow, but sometimes gives better results then main.
blue - similarity by content (fast algorithm by some "fingerprint")
green - similarity by tag (text based similarity)
red - similarity by exp.alg (only scans files that hit by 2 previous algs)
