Wishlist / Built-in ID3 Tag Editing (Copy/Move)
« on: May 11, 2009, 16:04:32 »
I noticed one more thing with MP3 tags.

One of the rippers I use, populates  ID3v2   very  nicely    but   ID2v1   it  sticks  garbage strings into (for some stupid reason) ....
and it looks like Similarity is only reading   ID2v1,  and i get the garbage tag info in Similarity GUI.
Any way around that ?

ex.
ID3v1.Title = þÿ
ID3v2.Title = Good Time (Radio Edit)

I sort of alluded to this in an earlier post somewhere.
But what I get happening  (and I think I also did see someone mention it before at some point),   when Similarity finishes all the scanning - there are some MP3 songs that match (incorrectly) many many other songs.
It is not clear why this happens,  so perhaps best if I send you an example pair - and you can let me know what is going on,  and what is so special about them that they match in the software ,  but to the human ear they could not be any more different.
Will send mail with MP3s to: support AT music<antiSpamChop>

News / Version 0.8 released
« on: May 08, 2009, 22:02:58 »
sorry if there is an FAQ  that I should have read,  i don't see one anywhere.
:(

So i will post a quick question here:
The  SENSITIVITY   selector on the Options dialog-box,    what is that a measure off exactly ?
Intuitively -  it seems to imply 'how exact a match between files checked should be'  .... but   then  it's not real clear  what  precise effect moving that slider will have    and    more importantly  what is it actually measuring ?

Wishlist / Tag compare
« on: May 08, 2009, 21:45:43 »
To be perfectly honest I don't understand the % values in the   %tag column at all.
I am looking at a song that is 98% identical in content, and all the song tags shown on screen only differ by 3chars in the song title.  (there are about 75chars in the displayed tags)
And yet it reports only 63%   in the  %tag   column. Why ?

Can you throw some light on that %tag calculation ?

v0.8

There is now only a black box separating (it seems) the two ID3 infos of the Left and Right file ....   it used to tell you what line the Title, Artist, Album, etc  is   in the older versions.

Was this taken out on purpose  or   by accident ?
(it was useful)

Wishlist / Built-in ID3 Tag Editing (Copy/Move)
« on: May 08, 2009, 21:23:35 »
I know this one may not make it to the top of the priority list, but here is the pattern I have noticed on a number of my duplicate resolutions:

SongA is a true duplicate of SongB  but =

SongA
Artist:ABC
Title:XYZ
Album:PQR
Rate:64kbit

SongB
Artist:<blank>
Title:<blank>
Album:<blank>
Rate:320kbit

So now I have to open each one a few times in Winamp to Copy-Paste the tag info from the poor quality SongA to  the one I want to keep SongB (because of its superior BitRate).   Then I erase SongA.
Very time consuming.

Is there any way  a  Copy/Move ID3 Tag  info  Left<-->Right  action can be added to Similarity  [and best to let the user pick the tags to Move].
Thnx.

Thank you very much for fixing the    'Vista uac problem'    .
I was wondering  what is going on there.  (Having to rescan whole archive at startup every time)
Can't wait to try it tonight.

Keep up the good work.

Wishlist / Mark as not duplicate option
« on: May 08, 2009, 20:52:03 »
I completely concur.
This is something that is a must.
Will be very happy to see it implemented.

At  95% sensitivity I still get hundreds of duplicates, and most of them are not.
Perhaps there is something wrong with the way I use it, or the algorithm gets confused.
I suspect when your collection us under 1000 songs this is a non-issue, but with libraries like mine 13000+ (i am sure others have way bigger collections) this is a major problemo.

Bugs / New: xxxx/yyyyy cut-off
« on: May 08, 2009, 20:46:14 »
v0.8 (and prev)

The blue indicator text on the number of files in the upper right corner,
Cache: zzzzzz
New:  xxxx/yyyyy
get cut off by the window border around the point when xxxx and yyyyy are more then 9 digits combined.

ex:      New:  1876/13372

You can easily sacrifice some of the progress bar to make room for about 12 or more x+y digits.
